Attention Chroma

This is going to be long. I'm sorry for that, but if I could keep everyone's attention until the end; this will require everyone's involvement.

It seems that everyone's been able to recover from last week's animal "mishap" without too much trouble. If anyone still needs help with repair or taking care of injuries be sure to reach out. We've got several skilled people who can assist you.

I'd like to offer a welcome to our newest residents. This must seem like a lot to you and I wish I could offer answers as to why it's happening. As much as I hate to say it last week wasn't even close to the worst we've endured in this place and that's something I'd like to address today.

For those of you that don't know me or my hex code, my name is Nyx Ulric. I'm one of the original arrivals from last year so you could consider me one of the veterans, to use a familiar term. We struggled a lot at first and I can safely say that we've been successful in building a functioning community with what we've had available. I'm proud of that, and invested in making sure we continue to grow as long as we're here.

By now everyone has noticed that, while the events of the past months haven't escalated on the surface, Chroma is steadily becoming a more unsafe environment. Our consequences for successful quests aren't always beneficial, and we're slowly being taken over by the forest no matter how much we've tried to keep them at bay. It doesn't help that cutting down the trees leads to some negative effects now.

We're stronger together and I propose that we buckle down on our defenses and make certain this curse or whatever that's inflicting this place doesn't take us down with it. Here's what I'd like to do:

-- Bring back town meetings. We need a place where we can share information or rewards we've individually discovered, and keep track of who's still here and build ideas to making this town better for everyone. If we consider the arrival of new residents as a new month, then we can start to properly schedule the year in a way most of us will be familiar with.

-- I'd like anyone with mapmaking skills to make several maps of the town with as much accuracy as possible. I want to post one right by the well for any newcomers that make their way out before we can get to them.

-- Update the well itself. We have a way for people to climb out, but if we can get light down there maintained every other month it will make things less jarring. I'd like to discuss possibly building something around it to protect it from weather as well.

-- Get anyone who's got repair experience together to shore up our perimeter. The treeline has been moving around the current walls, rather than busting through. There's a good chance if we can block off the majority of the gaps around town we can halt advancement and make it easier to defend ourselves from attack at the same time.

Flavo is the most open; we can use that zone to venture into the forest. It'll be easier to maintain the treeline there than trying to cover the whole town. We can get more materials from the buildings we've condemned. If we can't repair them we might as well dismantle them completely.

-- I'm also reinstating the defense teams, but I'm going to see about doing it a little differently. We need to get together to build up emergency evacuation plans in case of something like those dragons hits us again, and make sure there are clear paths through town so no one gets trapped.

I'll need volunteers, too, for sharing the various survival skills we've developed so far. Not just things like fighting, although anyone who wants to learn please speak up, but any kind of craft we've got. The more people who know how to build or repair or garden, things like that, the better a chance we'll have.

That's all for now. I'd like to set up a day in the next couple of weeks to get together at the town hall to go over this stuff in person. I'll be sure to keep you updated.
